The Origin of Tree Planting Day

      植树节是按照法律规定宣传保护树木，并组织动员群众积极参加以植树造林为活动内容的节日。1979年，第五届全国人大常委会第六次会议决定每年3月12日为中国植树节。成立此节日的目的在于提倡通过植树活动，激发人们爱林造林的热情，意识到环境保护的重要性。

      Tree Planting Day is a festival that propagandizes and protects trees in accordance with laws and regulations, and organizes and mobilizes people to actively participate in afforestation activities. In 1979, the sixth session of the Standing Committee of the Fifth National People's Congress decided to hold the annual tree planting Festival on March 12.
